Rødne Fjord Cruise · Strandkaien, then Forsand
A cruise up the Lysefjord to Forsand, then a mountain guide, a minibus and a winter hike to the plateau, with snow spikes, poles and a head lamp provided. From November to April this is the sensible way up: Visit Norway advises a guide in winter.

Rødne runs this from November to April: Thursday to Sunday in the winter months, daily in April. The boat leaves Strandkaien at 11:00 and reaches Forsand quay around 13:20, where a guide and a minibus meet the group. The hike runs from about 14:00 to 19:00, then the minibus takes you back through the subsea tunnel to your Stavanger hotel.
Do the maths on daylight. A hike that ends at 19:00 in December finishes long after dark, which is why the head lamp is in the kit. In winter the trail is snow and ice, and Visit Norway advises a guide, spikes and a head torch. This tour covers all three. The reward is a plateau with almost no one on it.
Two catches. Free cancellation ends 2 days before, not 24 hours. And the listing rules out children under 8, plus anyone with fear of heights, vertigo, seasickness, mobility issues or low fitness. You bring the winter clothes: boots, warm layers, waterproofs, hat and gloves.
The boat heads into the Lysefjord past islands, cliffs and waterfalls, including Fantahåla and Hengjanefossen.
The guide and a minibus meet the group in Forsand village.
From the Mountain Lodge, with spikes and poles handed out as conditions need.
Snow on the granite and very few people. Stay well back from the edge.
Down in the dark with head lamps, then back through the undersea tunnel to your hotel.
