Under the cliff by RIB

A two-hour ride in a rigid inflatable boat from the Stavanger Maritime Museum, a few minutes' walk from the cruise terminal, to the foot of Preikestolen and back. Pick it for a short port call or for speed: it is the shortest trip on this site.

RIB Boat Tour to Lysefjord & Preikestolen

About this experience

The listing describes a fast RIB past cliffs, caves and waterfalls to a spot beneath Preikestolen, about 600 m overhead. Your skipper is also your guide. Expect the stories: Vagabond Cave, where outlaws hid, and a 75 m waterfall the crew calls Whisky Falls, next to an old moonshine distillery, where riders can get wet.

Floating suits, life vests, goggles and gloves are handed out, which keeps you warm on a grey day. Expect spray, wind and some bumps. The listing rules it out for children under 6, pregnant women and anyone with back problems.

Like the cruises, it shows the rock from below and does not land. If you want the plateau as well, the RIB and hike combo pairs a RIB ride with a guided hike.

  • Preikestolen from below, about 600 m overhead
  • Vagabond Cave and the waterfall known as Whisky Falls
  • A chance of porpoises, seals and sea eagles
  • Floating suit, life vest, goggles and gloves included
  • Check-in a short walk from the cruise terminal

Tips before you book

  • Secure cameras, phones and hats. The listing asks for it, and the wind at speed takes anything loose.
  • Wear a warm layer under the floating suit.
  • Live guiding is in Norwegian and English, with audio in German, Italian, French, Spanish and English.
  • The schedule is set up for cruise passengers, so it is easy to fit in a morning or afternoon in port.

Frequently asked questions

Will I get wet?

Possibly. At Whisky Falls riders can get wet, and spray comes with the speed. The floating suit and gloves keep most of it off.

Where does the RIB leave from?

Check-in is in front of the Stavanger Maritime Museum, about a five-minute walk from the cruise terminal. Look for the team in yellow vests.

Can children join?

From age 6. The listing rules it out for younger children, pregnant women and people with back problems.

Do you land at Preikestolen?

No. The boat stops below the cliff and returns to Stavanger. For the plateau, see the RIB and hike combo.
